Ecdysterone Review

Ecdysterone is used by several weight loss companies because of its believed ability to help the body build lean muscle mass while deceasing body fat.  It’s a popular ingredient amongst body builders and nutritional scientists for those reasons.

There is some controversy surrounding Ecdysterone and its off shoot supplements. That controversy centers on the basis of this ingredient, mainly because it’s a synthetic representation of a substance produced by insects.

It some circles it is known as “bug juice” although it’s not really extracted directly from insects but instead, based on the insect hormone which is obviously produced in a lab. The driving idea behind the product is to capitalize on an insect’s super strength.

How does Ecdysterone work?

Ecdysterone is a synthetic representation of an insect steroid hormone responsible for several biological processes including progression between larva stages, entry to pupariation and metamorphosis. The steroid based chemical can also be found in some 200 types of plants, and may be used to help protect plants from insects.

Several decades ago Russian scientists found that edcysterione maintained a positive nitrogen balance and surprisingly would help increase protein synthesis in vertebrates.  This supplement, according to muscle mass manufactures, will act like a steroid to boost muscle mass, block cortisol from shrinking muscles and stimulate anabolic receptors.

It’s also reported that ecdysterone can be extracted from certain types of herbs—specifically Cyanotis vaga and leuzeae. There are a ton of products that claim ecdysterone or some version of it.

It would be wise to make sure the product stays true to the product.  There are several knockoffs that boast this product only to find out it’s either watered down or a cheap representation.

What else should I know about Ecdysterone

Because it was discovered almost 4 decades ago, one would suppose there would be ample time to do a number of studies on the product. But because the technology to extract ecdysterone from these insects didn’t exist—or at least couldn’t be done at a reasonable cost—it was very difficult to get (It cost somewhere around $20,000 per kilogram).

It wasn’t until the turn of the century that it became reasonable to extract, and since then it has gained in popularity as a muscle building/weight loss supplement.
